Building the Enterprise Layer Between LLM Providers, AI Agents, and Employees

Somewhere between the model providers upstream and the people and agents consuming them downstream, a new layer has quietly become mandatory. You can stick to a single vendor and buy ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude Enterprise, buy a SaaS platform that wraps several, or build your own. We ended up building our own AI platform because nothing we could buy served all three sides: employees wanted multiple models, shared workspaces, coding agents and image generation; applications and coding agents wanted keys; and the owners wanted to control the cost and keep the data inside our own infrastructure.
